On May 4, the two normative acts that make up the legislative package on data protection at the level of the European Union were published in the Official Journal of the European Union:
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46 / EC (General Data Protection Regulation),
- Directive (EU) 2016/680 on the protection of personal data in the context of specific activities carried out by law enforcement authorities.
Regulation (EU) 2016/679 updates the principles established two decades ago by Directive 95/46 / EC which will cease to apply.
The General Data Protection Regulation entered into force on May 25, 2016 and will be directly applicable starting with May 25, 2018.
